Creating communities where everyone can thrive starts with supporting our communities’ children.
At Universally, Inc., we believe every child deserves access to stories and creators who inspire them to learn, reflect, and grow. That’s why we partnered with the Little Ruth Children’s Collection to launch Literacy Leap, a joint initiative bringing Community-to-Classroom Connections programs at no cost to schools, after-school programs, and community organizations across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
Literacy Leap delivers books, curricula, author visits, book clubs, and creative activities from the Little Ruth Collection directly into classrooms—strengthening literacy, social-emotional growth, and problem-solving skills while inspiring a lifelong love of reading.
With your support, we’re raising $100,000 to provide 5,000 books, learning resources, and enrichment experiences through the Literacy Leap Initiative.

Literacy Leap’s Mission
The Literacy Leap is a bold campaign to distribute 5,000 books to students across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Through this initiative, we aim to close the literacy and reading comprehension gaps. We will also achieve other critical aims such as (1) improving self esteem and self confidence, (2) helping children develop social-emotional skills, and (3) helping children develop community building and problem-solving skills. The Literacy Leap Initiative will achieve all these goals while elevating protagonists who reflect all children and their communities!
Why Your Support Matters
Your donation will directly fund the purchase and distribution of books and learning materials in which they can see themselves, their families, their peers, and community members. They will also be able to meet the authors and other creators in whom they can see themselves. When children can see themselves and their peers in their learning materials and environments, it builds their self-confidence, self-esteem, and empathy. At the same time, they improve their learning outcomes. Most of all they know that their stories matter!
